This course has had such a positive impact on me that I am not quite sure where to start.

Firstly, I must acknowledge the hand of God and give thanks to Him for blessing me with employers like Carl and Candice who have granted me with the opportunity to be part of this amazing course!

Secondly, a huge thanks to Naomi Basson for facilitating the programme so brilliantly! Naomi, you have helped me face the most difficult of challenges, both personally and professionally; and for that, I will be eternally grateful. I also need to give thanks to my LMI team mates for embracing this opportunity, opening themselves up to change and for being part of my extraordinary journey.

I am truly blessed and favoured, extremely humbled by gratitude for this incredible opportunity. The LMI Self-Mastery and ETD (Effective Team Dynamics) course has opened the door for me to see my true potential in developing my own abilities in a way I could never have imagined.

From the very first lesson ‘I CAN’ to the last ‘High–Performance Team Work’ - I have discovered and uncovered more about my own ability in ways I never knew I could. From knowing my self-worth, to how to handle people and conflict, to finding solutions and how to get the best out my team effectively. It has helped me mature personally as well as professionally and has helped me discover my life’s true purpose.

In Lesson 2 ‘How to use Tact and Skill in handling People’, Dr Paul Parker says: 

“Our real purpose and endeavours should be to develop the abilities that we already have. Many go through life without ever discovering themselves.” 

He goes further and in saying: “If our own concept of ourselves is small, then we will do and have small things. On the other hand, if we have a larger concept of ourselves, we will naturally do bigger things and attract the bigger things in life.”

There is that ONE moment, situation, or event that occurs in one’s life; and for me, it was this lesson. I began to see things more clearly and came to the realization that the error of my ways was procrastination. I realized that I needed to take charge of my life and my future. So many times our future is in the very palm of our hands, yet we find ourselves occupied by daily distractions - we end up postponing the important things in life and many times even forget them entirely and life just goes on. I was intimidated by the thought of change and ended up procrastinating.

I have learnt how important it is to go and get what I want, by setting goals for myself, mapping them and monitoring their progress. This was all new to me, yet tremendously motivating to see my future before me - bright and magnificently possible! From setting Team Goals, to Personal Goals and even Personal Business Goals – these were things I never thought I would or could do. I am no longer limiting myself or making my goals small by thinking small - I kept my goals SMART and dreamed BIG!

Before the LMI course, I would have never known that my life’s purpose is helping people find their true potential; in developing their own abilities and being the best they can be. I will be a recognised Motivational Trainer/Facilitator within 8-10 years from now - this is one of my Personal Business Goals!

I once read: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did but people will never forget how you made them feel,” by Maya Angelo. This is as true in the business world as it is in life - working with a team of inevitable diversity as well as competitiveness. 

With ETD, these three lessons showed me how actively we can operate with the right mindset, tools and attitude. I was always one to look at how someone else would approach a task and tend to do the same, but now I have learnt the importance of individuality within a team. 

This made me think of the human body: we can’t function with only our liver, or only our kidney. We need all our body parts to function. Lungs, heart, kidney, liver; all these organs play a vital role in order for the human body to operate to its full potential. I have realized this is no different when it comes to working in a team. Each member must bring their own individual natural abilities to make the team excel to its full potential. 

These five points stood out for me:

  • We have to crystallize our thinking.

  • Develop a plan of action to achieve our goals.

  • Grow a sincere desire with enthusiasm to succeed.

  • Increase supreme confidence within your team and yourself, believing that you know exactly what must be done.

  • Committing to the goal with dogged determination, clearly evaluating possible solutions.

I believe that, in applying these five key principals to my team and taking into account and utilizing each team members’ unique abilities, we will be dynamically brilliant! I will equip myself with the tools and skills I require to achieve my Personal Business Goals, as well as apply myself to everything I received on the LMI course.

This will be my mental attitude going forward as I look to a bright future!
